WADWIER
Co-financed by the Waddenfonds, the WadWier project entails a consortium of six partners, including C.I.V. Offshore & Shipping and NorthSeaweed B.V.
WadWier focuses on land-based cultivation of seaweed (particularly, the green Ulva spp.) in the Netherlands. Within man-made basins, various cultivation methods are being tested to assess the ecologic and economic feasibility of on-land cultivation in the Netherlands and the Wadden Sea region.

MOROCWEED
The MorocWeed project, carried out in collaboration with the local SKB Aquaculture Morocco, focuses on cultivating seaweed in the lagoon of Nador.
The seaweed farm in the lagoon mainly revolves around the endemic species Ulva spp. and Gracilaria sp. Cultivation practices are continuously optimized to ensure the year-round yield of the two seaweed species. Seemingly, harvesting, drying, and processing methods are constantly evaluated to secure high-quality biomass for the food and animal feed markets, and to guarantee the most environmentally sustainable practices.
The project aims for a close partnership with local fishing groups and the employability of local communities, who will contribute to the maintenance of the farm, monitoring of biomass growth, and handling of the seaweed after harvest, among others.
Thanks to favorable weather conditions, the Nador farm is expected to supply year-round, high-quality seaweed biomass to the local and European markets.
